The new law, which the Texas Legislatur e passed in the recent will go into effecton Jan. 1, 2010. The reviewe will cover each appraisal district’s taxpayer assistance, operating and appraisal standards, procedures and The bill, House Bill 8, created a nine-member Comptroller’sw Property Value Study Advisory Committee to conducwith Combs’ office prior to the adoption of study If an appraisal districtf fails to comply with a comptroller’ws recommendation within one year, the Board of Tax Professional Examinersx will take action to ensure compliance.
Anotherd change in the law will involve easingthe state’es requirement that the comptroller conduct a propertg value study to determine the taxablse value of each school district each year. Under the new law, the comptroller will conduct a study everytwo years, except when the studhy finds invalid values for a school district. If appraisals are founc to be irregular, a studh will be conducted annually untikl the property valuesare valid.
“We look forware to working with appraisal districts in our reviews and valuwe studies to ensure fair andaccurate appraisals,” Combs “Texas taxpayers expect and deserve efficieny service and uniform appraisals so property taxes are shared equally among taxpayers.”
