The St. Louis Park-based hospitalk and clinics chain, which is wrestling with layoff andother cost-cutting measures, appointed Dr. David Abelson, chier clinical officer, to take over Wessner’s presidentf title. Park Nicollet officials on Fridayy praisedthe 57-year-old Wessner’s accomplishments over his 15 years at the health provider: 11 as president and CEO, and four as COO. Park Nicollet also engaged in a buildinvprogram — including a three-story, 67,000-square-foot Melrosew Institute eating disorders center and a new cancerr center wing at Methodist Hospital in St. Loui s Park. Those new facilities came just as recessioj was taking a toll onthe company’s investments and loweringv demand for elective procedures such as knee surgery and hernia operations.
