The time frame for the mone is much sooner than originally recommendedin Gov. Jim Doyle’x proposed budget. Doyle had proposed $500,000 per year in state bonding authority overa 10-year period. Bradleyu Center chairman Ulice Payne saidthe committee’s recommendatiom to speed up the allocationn would allow building officials to addressz “urgent concerns more promptly.” “The approach endorsefd by the committee will allow the Bradley Center to more quickluy address issues such as obsolete electrical and HVAC systeme and install more energy-efficient he said. “Resolving these itemws now will make for better maintenance of the buildin g in thelonger term.
That’s important to extendingf the life of the The Bradley Center is planning to invesyt a totalof $23 million in the Bradley Center to replacre aging building systems and infrastructure. The remainingb funds needed for building maintenance would be raised througuh private sources and revenuw fromthe building. The list of problejm areas highlighted in a recentr BusinessJournal story, alongh with projected replacement costs, include: Seriously outdated mechanical and heating and air conditioning systems requirinbg major upgrades that will cost aboutf $500,000. • An outdated scoreboard that was installefin 1995. A new scoreboard is estimated to costbetweej $4 million and $4.
5 million. An aging roof that needs about $150,0090 in repair work. • An obsolete hockey rink systemj that must be replaced at a cost estimatedfbetween $200,000 and • Aging and energy inefficient lighting and worn out electricao and electrical components that will cost abou $175,000. • Replacement or refurbishment of a substantiapl portion ofthe 18,000 • The replacement of temporary handrails throughout the seating bowl, which will cost aboutf $200,000. • And upgrades to the securityu and lifesafety systems.
In Bradley Center officials want to add a team a sit-down restaurant and a family interactive all of which would be important revenue-generator s for the facility. In fact, many NBA arenaxs have several of those including the Target Center in which is home to the NBA City The Bradley Center isthe second-oldest arena in the NBA that has not had a majo renovation. It was constructed in 1988 as a gift to the communityy from JaneBradley Pettit, an heiress to the Allen-Bradle Co. founders. The facilithy is the home to the Milwaukee Milwaukee Admirals, Marquette University Golden Eaglesd and the Milwaukee Iron arenwa football team.
The center also hostas special events andmusical performances.
